Mark 1:12–13 (ESV)
12 The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.
Do you grasp the significance of this event that occurred at the beginning of Christ’s active ministry? We sometimes say to ourselves: “Christ didn’t understand what I go through when I am tempted to sin.” Yet here is Christ, being tempted for 40 straight days! And He had Satan himself as the instigator of that temptation. The master tempter had his full attention fixed on causing Christ to sin. And you think your temptations are tough!
Yet Christ succeeded! 40 days without food. Wild animals abounded in the wilderness. So, in addition to mental and physical anguish caused by the temptations, there was constantly a potential of attack by ravening animals.
Look to Christ as the example to look to in the endurance of your temptations. He succeeded, and he’ll help you succeed as well ~ why don’t you pray and ask for help?
